About Your CFC

The mission of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is to support and to promote philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all Federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

The Combined Federal Campaign is Your Campaign.
The CFC was created for our nation's Federal civilian, postal and military personnel. It is the world's largest and most successful charity drive. The CFC has been operating over 45 years and has a proven track record. It is conducted annually by Federal employees who volunteer as Campaign Cabinet leaders, Marketing Committee members, Loaned Executives, Employee Campaign Managers, and key workers.

The CFC is like a department store for charities.
Charities that participate in the CFC serve virtually every area of humanitarian need: International relief and development, environmental protection, medical research and health care, hunger and homelessness, education and leadership training, family and community development, recreation, human rights and justice, special programs for women, children, minorities and the disabled, and many more.

Charities are listed alphabetically or grouped by federations of agencies with similar humanitarian missions. You will see a brief description of each charity, its contact information, the administrative cost percentage, and its designation code. In 2007, the designation code for charities changed to five digits. This code has been assigned to charities and will remain constant throughout all CFC campaigns across the country.

It offers easy, convenient one-stop shopping.
To give, just choose the charity or charities you wish to support…find the designation code in the brochure…complete and sign the simple pledge card….and return it to your Employee Campaign Manager or key worker. There is no simpler way for you to make good things happen for so many people.

Payroll deduction is an extended, time-release formula for philanthropic action.
By having small amounts deducted each pay period, payroll deduction givers are able to increase the size of their contributions and, at the same time, stay within their budgets. Over a year's time, these regular contributions accumulate and have a larger impact.

Beginning the first pay period in January, your donation will be deducted automatically from your paycheck for the next twelve months, and sent to the charities you selected. Of course, you also may make a one-time contribution with cash or check.

You can give with confidence.
The CFC includes only charities that are financially accountable and effective. Every year, fellow Federal employee volunteers carefully review thousands of charities. Hundreds are excluded from the list because they do not meet the high standards set by the CFC. Each local CFC campaign has a Local Federal Coordinating Committee (or Campaign Cabinet), comprised of Federal volunteers, that will approve and carefully monitor campaign expenses. An independent audit is completed each year, and the Office of the Inspector General periodically audits all campaigns.

CFC can be customized to reflect your own beliefs, values and humanitarian concerns.
The pledge card has room for up to five different charities. (Additional designations must be completed on a second pledge card.) This allows you to support the charities and causes about which you care most. For example, you could distribute your gifts among local, national and international charities, or among a combination of secular and religious affiliated charities, or among different areas of need like education, health, and the environment. You may only designate to a charitable organization that is listed in the brochure. To ensure that your donation goes only to the charity or humanitarian cause you wish to support, be sure to specify the appropriate code number on your pledge card.

The voluntary spirit of giving is guaranteed.
Federal employees have the right to contribute or not to contribute through the CFC. Coercion is forbidden. The choice is yours. If you prefer, you may donate through the CFC anonymously by placing your confidential gift in a sealed envelope.

The Office of Personnel Management's CFC Operations Office has identified practices that are not permitted in the workplace campaign: solicitation of employees by their supervisor, setting 100 % participation goals, establishing personal dollar goals and quotas, providing and using contributor lists for purposes other than the routine collection and forwarding of contributions and installment pledges, and developing lists of non-contributors.

Civilian employees who wish to register complaints about coercion should contact the LFCC and consult with their personnel offices; military personnel should consult with their commanding officer.

You can see the results.
The beneficial results of the charities you support through the CFC are all around you. Thousands of people in our community - including your fellow workers - have benefited from your generosity. Newspapers, television and the internet are full of inspiring stories about millions of lives that have been changed forever in our community, across our nation and around the world.

There are many opportunities for you to volunteer and observe, first hand, the difference your CFC contribution makes.

By giving through CFC, your work and life gain new meaning.
If you give through the CFC, your job takes on a new dimension. Every minute of your workday and every dollar of your donation help to make our world a better place in which to live. When the going gets tough in a meeting or project, just imagine the humanitarian needs you are addressing just by doing your job! Then the meeting or project will seem to go smoother. Your morale will improve. The people around you will feel better. What a better legacy than stepping up, and saying, "I care deeply about this issue and I'm doing something about it through my annual contribution through the Combined Federal Campaign."
